Privacy policy

Catalogd is a book tracker for iPhone and iPad. No account, no analytics, nothing on our servers.

What we collect

Nothing. Catalogd has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. We operate no server that receives your data, so there is no copy of your library anywhere but your own device.

What stays on your device

Your books, and everything you record about them: shelf, rating, notes, dates, reading history, whether you own a copy.
Cover images, stored alongside your library.
Restore Points, the rotating on-device snapshots Catalogd takes before an import, before removing everything, and when you leave the app.

None of this is transmitted anywhere. Deleting the app deletes it.

What leaves your device

Requests to look up books, and nothing else. They go to Open Library, a service of the Internet Archive, and, for covers only, to Inventaire, a non-profit that publishes open book data.

When you search, your search text is sent to Open Library.
When you scan a barcode, the ISBN is sent. The camera image is never stored and never leaves the device.
After you add or import books, Catalogd asks Open Library for missing covers, genres, and publication details (ISBN, pages, year, publisher), using each book's ISBN or title.
When Open Library has no cover for a book, Catalogd asks Inventaire for one, using that book's ISBN.

These requests carry the book being looked up and nothing else. They do not carry your identity, your library, your ratings, or your notes, because Catalogd has no identity for you to carry. Open Library receives them under its own terms, and Inventaire under its own.

Things you choose to send

Some actions hand data to another app, and only ever when you tap them:

Export writes your library to a file you then share wherever you choose.
Report a Problem and Export Logs open a mail message you can read and edit before sending. Titles, ISBNs, Open Library ids and URLs are redacted from the log first, and your notes are never written to it.
Share cards produce an image you preview before sharing. It carries counts, not your library.
View on Goodreads opens your browser. Catalogd itself never contacts Goodreads.

Children

Catalogd collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.

We do not sell your data. There is no data of yours for us to sell.
